Empowered to Lead: Kanchan’s Journey from Silence to Strength

25th Nov 2024

For years, Kanchan endured the sharp sting of her husband’s words. “You’re just sitting idle at home. All my friends’ wives contribute to their households—why can’t you?” These comments, paired with her discontinued education and lack of exposure, left her feeling trapped and unsure of where to begin.

That was until ISC Saksham mentors arrived in her community. They sought women like Kanchan—women with untapped potential, bound by fear and limited opportunities. Slowly, Kanchan found herself stepping into a learning environment that felt unfamiliar but safe. Initially quiet, she observed others, realizing many of them shared stories similar to hers.

What inspired her most was the Saksham Leader, Kranti. Watching Kranti speak with confidence and motivate others, Kanchan dared to dream of changing her own circumstances.

Over three years, her journey of transformation unfolded. From taking foundational training courses in stitching and tailoring to working at the production center, Kanchan gained the confidence to interact with groups. Her proudest moment came when she was offered the role of a community trainer in another NGO, fulfilling her dream of inspiring other women.

Today, Kanchan is more than an advocate for financial independence; she’s a symbol of empowerment in her community. She trains women in upskilling, encourages them to open bank accounts, and educates them about the importance of investments and government schemes.

“I’ve invested my savings in the stock market to secure my family’s future,” Kanchan shares, her voice full of pride. Now, she shoulders her family’s responsibilities equally with her husband, breaking the cycle of dependency.

“The Saksham program didn’t just provide training; it offered me the strength, support, and guidance I needed to rewrite my story”.

And today, Kanchan is determined to help other women do the same—one confident step at a time.
